Rojai (pronounced ROW-JUH - real name Jairo Vargas) is a San Francisco born singer emerging as a leading voice in the modern funk scene. As a frontman for groups like R&B duo Kool Customer and Latin-funk outfit Bayonics, Rojai has proven himself adept at crooning on any groove in his raspy, soulful timbre. Strut Down, his solo LP debut on Austin Boogie Crew Records, is a remarkable effort set to hop on every playlist in 2019! The majority of the production on Strut Down is handled by E. Live, who previously worked with Rojai on their classic underground EP Hard Pressed. The two have undeniable chemistry, and together they craft one of the strongest modern funk records to date. Just a Lil Bit and Finest Girl are pristine party tracks that rely on minimal, effective arrangements, channeling the spirit of 80's boogie legends like Kashif. The lead single So Special is a catchy, sweet, and powerful modern disco gem about what draws us to certain people. It's a timeless song you can imagine Don Cornelius introducing in front of a Soul Train line. Strut Down and Soul Step come to life with live horns and guitar, fitting seamlessly alongside newer soul efforts by artists like Anderson Paak and Ari Lennox. Meanwhile Do Me and Something About You are smooth yet danceable mid-tempo duets with Sally Green and Povi Tamu respectively. Rounding out the project, Now That I Know and Strangers Eyes (the outside production contributions from Carlos Espinosa and Dame the Drummer), effectively dabble in a more electronic sound with high-energy drums and arpeggiated synths. Strut Down, Just a Lil Bit (Feat. B. Bravo), So Special (Feat. G. Vargas), Do Me (Feat. K. Lefunk Sally Green ; B. Bravo), Something About You (Feat. Povi Tamu), Soul Step (Feat. Sally Green), Now That I Know, Finest Girl (Feat. Sally Green), Strangers Eyes (Feat. Dame the Drummer), Something About You (Remix) (Feat. Povi Tamu)
